We welcome Annette Martens to our group of contributors. She is a poet and we have just added the first two of her poems. Find out about Annette and read her poems.
Many
years ago when I was a young, eager, wannabe pop star I tried several times
to write a song. It was hopeless. I could not get two lines
to rhyme unless they had the words moon, spoon, or June in them.
Believing I was a creative moron I eventually threw the towel in on any
song writing ambitions that I might have had. more

“Arise
my soul arise” is one of those songs that came together very quickly. I
was just playing my guitar and flicking through a song book when the title
of this Charles Wesley hymn grabbed me. The reason the title grabbed me
is that I love the word arise. It is such a positive and hope inspiring
word. I love to sing about the theme of rising up as that is what
God’s grace enables us to do. more >>

Before
I became a Christian and particularly as a child I had thought that Jesus
was nothing more than a character from a history book. A carpenter from
Nazareth or “Baby Jesus” of the nativity. I had no idea that He even
existed at all apart from stories I had heard. It’s clear that multitudes
of others think the same. This got me thinking of what He has revealed
of Himself to me as I have got to know Him. more

Culture
of Glory - The Glory of the New Creation.
God shares His blessings
and character with fallen man, once we repent and receive the new creation.
The Christian life is discovering the scope of the new creation. The Lord
Jesus has placed everything we need to live the life in our spirits. We
are called by the gospel to obtain glory, says 2 Thessalonians 2: 14. All
that God HAS and all that God IS are communicated to us through the Lord
Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit, God’s great “how He does a thing” alone
knows the Son perfectly and lead’s us into ALL truth.
In the light of astonishing
new creation realities, how is it that the church of the living God is
impotent and immobile?
Ignorance ranks high, and
God’s people are destroyed by it. There was a man who paid for a transatlantic
ship journey and stashed plenty of biscuits and cheese for the journey.
His ticket actually included the fabulous meals on board, but he only realised
his ignorance when the statue of liberty was in sight! On our heavenly
path, many of us make the same mistake. We don’t receive all that redemption
has purchased for us – perhaps only 1 or 2 per cent? This could be the
believer’s greatest sin – living at such a low level of faith we are hardly
distinguishable from those next door pagans who left God sometime in childhood.
Whatever the devil throws
at you, don’t lose heart. We lose heart when we look at things seen; when
we fail to focus on the unseen things of glory and the new creation. Be
objective in times of pressure and face the fact that the Lord of the heavenly
armies reigns. more >>
God removes in order to establish
something better. The context of this great principle is the covenants.
The first covenant was wholly of God yet removed by Him in order to establish
a better covenant based on a better promise. That better covenant was brought
into being by His death on the Cross because Jesus rose as High Priest
of a new covenant. more >>
We live in a filthy world,
breaking apart at the seams. The early church had such a standard
of holiness, those not born again, “dared not join them” (Acts 5 : 13).
The call of holiness in today’s church has been suppressed by the blessing,
quick-fix gospel. more >>
